August 2018 Newsletter

From the Laptop of Pastor Jane

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7

Have you ever experienced the presence of the Lord in such a way that it moves you and at the same time gives you new insight, direction, and encourages you to “go the extra mile” for Jesus? I believe that is truly what happened to me at Work Camp this year! I have always known that youth ministry has been my true calling and PASSION for Jesus but it was not until we experienced our trip two weeks ago, that I realized why once again!

We are called to serve, friends, in all capacities and it was a true wonder to watch our young people step out of their comfort zones to do just that, serve, and then realize it was because His spirit was moving them! They not only experienced being led by Christ to use their gifts, hands and feet to make a difference but also had many “AHHA” moments about their faith. It was through them that I, too, experienced AHHA moments which continues to move me to open up new avenues for Preakness to venture this coming fall!

So my question to you is, are you ready to experience some AHHA moments too and STAND UP AND BE COUNTED as part of this unique family of God? On September 16th, I am asking YOU, our entire family and friends, to be present as we worship at 10:30 a.m. I promise it will be a day filled with His spirit, combining the traditions we hold dear and adding some new ex- citement to worship to encourage us to experience lasting AHHA moment! Everyone of us need to experience a revival for Jesus and I believe it is about to begin!

Whether we are small and mighty or large and mighty, the time has come to stand up and be counted perhaps instead of sitting still and waiting for the spirit to move us from our seats! We talk about attendance being smaller; financial challenges; or wonder what will hap- pen in the next few years but as we do that, I believe we have forgotten how to step out of the boat and stay focused on Jesus! If I could take you all on a work camp experience, I believe you might understand just what might have happened to our youth or even the adults that attended but since that is not a choice, then it is time to care, serve and show our faith like never before as though we all just came back from serving!

So friends, I want you to check your calendar now and mark SEPTEMBER 16TH AT 10:30 A.M. IN PEN AND JOIN US AS WE STAND TOGETHER! PLEASE KNOW, WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR YOU!!!! Of course, as in our Baptist tradition, there will be food in Kenyon Hall fol- lowing worship!

Pray you are excited! I am!
