We Care! We Serve! We Believe!
From the Laptop of Pastor Jane in Wildwood, New Jersey
As I packed my bag on Sunday night after an amazing two weeks of worship, fellowship, study, youth group and time with our friends from Tuvalu, there were still several sticky notes left with “EXPECTED responsibili-ties” to be done by Monday morning before I left for the senior trip to Wildwood. God was good and as I left, I only had one critical expectation left; this article for our October newsletter.
Tuesday rolled around and I thought, I still have two days to complete this task and forward it to Ruth by Thursday at 10 a.m. Here it is Thursday morning at 12:35 am and I am finally at my laptop trying to com-plete my EXPECTED task. Deadlines, expectations, and yes “UNEXPECTED surprises” all topics of the sermon from Sunday came rushing through my mind. Yet, per-haps this Pastor should practice what she preached!
Life surely throws many EXPECTED responsibilities our way but it is the UNEXPECTED surprises from God that bring His joy and peace and allows us to see more clearly the importance of God working through us!
So although I would love to give you a profound mes-sage in this newsletter in October, what I discovered again is that although our life has placed many EXPEC-TATIONS on our plate, without those UNEXPECTED sur-prises, perhaps we may not see just how blessed we are through HIS grace, mercy, and love. Sometimes we need to put aside the expectations, tasks and deadlines to get a glimpse of Jesus each day. So friends, I did just that, these past four days!
Eight gathered these past 4 days in Wildwood to share experiences, conversations, meals, games, outdoor beauty, alone time with the Lord, moments from the heart and what happened; UNEXPECTED SURPRISES! Friendships grew; giving was experienced in countless ways; and change has taken place helping each see our Lord more clearly. Perhaps that is what happens when we put aside some of the demands and expectations of the world and allow His surprises to be a priority? And to top that off, what was to be a rainy week, was filled with sunshine!
So what is the message here today? Step out of our comfort zone; put aside some of the demands on our expectation list for just a moment; reach out in friend-ship, give and be excited how God will change us when we allow Him to surprise us! How? Join a Bible study; help with worship or technology; come to worship; be a greeter; join the board; sing in the choir; visit a shut-in; join the painting team; assist with youth group; go on the next senior outing or come to YAH; encourage someone with a note or call (text or email too); attend a mission trip; and take in the unexpected surprises from Our Lord!
In fact, perhaps one of the “expected” sticky notes should read, SEEK AN UNEXPECTED SURPRISE FROM JESUS TODAY! I did here in Wildwood and grew closer to seven from our family of God! Sure glad this Pastor practiced what she preached! How about you?
Blessings from the sea! Pastor Jane
